Aurora Expeditions

Daily Itinerary

1. Day 1

   London (Greenwich), England

   United Kingdom

The point from which every navigator on earth determines their longitude, Greenwich anchors the world's meridian with a UNESCO-listed collection of maritime monuments — from the brass Prime Meridian line at the Royal Observatory to the Cutty Sark's wind-worn hull and the baroque Painted Hall of the Old Royal Naval College. Board the Thames Clipper for a 30-minute glide to central London, or explore the weekend market's global food stalls. Summer brings the Thames to its most inviting, with long evenings golden above the river.

2. Day 2

   London Tower Bridge

   United Kingdom

London Tower Bridge is cruising's most cinematic arrival — watching the Victorian bascules lift as your ship enters the Pool of London past the 950-year-old Tower, Borough Market, and centuries of maritime history compressed into a single Thames transit. Arrive May through September via Scenic or Viking for the floating introduction to London that transforms port logistics into ceremony.

3. Day 3

   Portsmouth, UK

   United Kingdom

Portsmouth is England's preeminent naval city, home to the Historic Dockyard where Nelson's HMS Victory still resides, and a vibrant waterfront culture spanning Georgian Southsea to the cobbled lanes of Old Portsmouth. Visitors should not miss the dockyard's extraordinary collection of historic warships and a seafood lunch overlooking the Solent. Late spring through early autumn offers the finest conditions, with long coastal light and calm seas ideal for exploring the harbour and nearby attractions such as Stonehenge and the Isle of Wight.

4. Day 4

   Guernsey

   Guernsey

Guernsey is a British Crown Dependency in the English Channel, where Norman French heritage, dramatic coastal cliffs, and Victor Hugo's literary legacy create a uniquely charming island experience. Must-dos include visiting Hugo's eccentric Hauteville House, tasting local crab and ormer shellfish, and exploring the German Occupation tunnels. May through September offers the mildest weather and longest days for clifftop walking and beach exploration.

5. Day 5

   Plymouth, England

   United Kingdom

Plymouth, on Devon's dramatic coast, launched the Mayflower, defeated the Spanish Armada, and provisioned Cook's Pacific discoveries from its magnificent natural harbor. The Barbican's Elizabethan quarter, Plymouth Hoe's panoramic headland, and England's oldest working gin distillery preserve maritime heritage that wartime bombing could not erase. Ambassador Cruise Line and Azamara bring travelers to a city where Drake's legacy, Devonshire cream teas, and proximity to wild Dartmoor create an English port experience of genuine historical grandeur.

6. Day 6

   Falmouth, UK

   United Kingdom

Falmouth is Cornwall's cultural and maritime heart, set on one of the world's finest natural harbors with a superb maritime museum, Henry VIII's Pendennis Castle, and access to subtropical gardens and the Helford River's hidden creeks. Must-dos include Fal oysters, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, and boat trips to St. Mawes. May through September offers the warmest conditions for exploring Cornwall's stunning coastline.

7. Day 7

   Lake District, England

8. Day 8

   Holyhead, Wales

   United Kingdom

Holyhead is Wales's maritime gateway on Holy Island, offering dramatic cliff walks to South Stack Lighthouse with its puffin colonies, plus access to Anglesey's Neolithic burial chambers and Edward I's Beaumaris Castle. Must-do experiences include tasting Halen Môn sea salt and lobster at coastal restaurants, exploring Bryn Celli Ddu's ancient passage tomb, and walking the Victorian breakwater. May through September is best, with summer bringing puffins and the longest days.

9. Day 9

   Douglas

   Isle of Man

Douglas is the capital of the Isle of Man, home to the world's oldest parliament (Tynwald), the legendary Tourist Trophy motorcycle races, and a Victorian promenade served by horse-drawn trams since 1876. Visit May through September via Azamara or Windstar for TT race excitement and the cultural distinctiveness of a self-governing island.

10. Day 10

    Belfast

    United Kingdom

Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital, is a vibrant port city renowned for its rich shipbuilding heritage, highlighted by the Titanic Belfast museum. Must-do experiences include exploring the historic Cathedral Quarter and tasting traditional dishes like Irish stew and soda bread at St. George's Market. The best season to visit is during the spring and summer when the city comes alive with festivals and outdoor events.

11. Day 11

    Londonderry

    United Kingdom

Derry (Londonderry) is Ireland's only completely walled city, where 400-year-old fortifications encircle a cultural renaissance born from a complex and powerful history. Must-dos include walking the unbreached city walls, visiting the Museum of Free Derry, and tasting Lough Foyle oysters and traditional soda bread. May through September offers the mildest weather and longest evenings for exploring this resilient and creative Northern Irish city.
