Emerald Cruises

Daily Itinerary

1. Day 1

   Mahe

   Seychelles

Mahé is the largest Seychelles island, a granitic paradise of ancient forests, over sixty pristine beaches, and the world's smallest capital city, Victoria. Must-do experiences include beach-hopping from Anse Intendance to Anse Major, hiking Morne Seychellois peak, and tasting octopus curry and Takamaka rum. November through March offers calm seas for beaches; May through September is cooler and ideal for hiking.

2. Day 2

   La Digue

   Seychelles

La Digue is the smallest inhabited granitic island in the Seychelles, where ancient granite boulders frame the world-famous Anse Source d'Argent beach and bicycles remain the primary transport. Visitors cycle through tropical splendour, spot the endangered Seychelles paradise flycatcher, and feast on Creole cuisine of grilled snapper, octopus curry, and vanilla-scented ladob. AIDA, Azamara, Emerald Yacht Cruises, and Ponant call on Indian Ocean itineraries, with April-May and October-November offering the calmest seas and most reliable sunshine.

3. Day 2

   Praslin, Seychelles

   Seychelles

Praslin is the Seychelles' second-largest island, home to the UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai primeval palm forest and beaches consistently ranked among the world's most beautiful. Visit during the transitional months of April-May or October-November for calm seas, the ancient coco de mer forest, and snorkeling in crystalline waters off Anse Lazio.

4. Day 3

   Amirantes Islands

   Seychelles

5. Day 4

   Alphonse Islands

   Seychelles

The Alphonse Islands are a pristine coral atoll in the Outer Seychelles, world-renowned for exceptional bonefishing, spectacular diving on coral walls, and turtle nesting beaches managed by a dedicated conservation foundation. Must-dos include snorkeling the house reef, wade fishing the crystal-clear flats, and watching sea turtles nest on moonlit beaches. October through May offers the calmest seas and best underwater visibility.

6. Day 5

   Farquhar Islands

   Seychelles

Farquhar Islands, Seychelles is a distinctive port city where deep cultural heritage meets authentic local atmosphere, featured on itineraries by Emerald Yacht Cruises. Must-do experiences include exploring the vibrant local markets for regional specialties and fresh seafood, and discovering the waterfront quarter where maritime heritage meets contemporary energy. The optimal time to visit is November through April, when dry season brings clear skies and calm seas.

7. Day 6

   Aldabra Atoll, Seychelles

   Seychelles

Aldabra is the world's largest raised coral atoll, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the remote Seychelles outer islands where over 100,000 giant tortoises roam freely and the last flightless bird in the Indian Ocean survives. Must-dos include observing the vast tortoise population, snorkelling pristine reefs, and watching manta rays in the tidal channels. Visit October through April for calmer seas; all visits require strict permits.

10. Day 10

    Kilwa Kisiwani, Tanzania

    Tanzania

Kilwa Kisiwani is a UNESCO-listed island off Tanzania's coast, once the wealthiest city in medieval East Africa — a Swahili trading power whose coral-stone mosques and palaces rival any pre-colonial architecture on the continent. Must-dos include the Great Mosque with its 11th-century coral columns, the vast Husuni Kubwa palace ruins, and snorkelling the virtually unvisited surrounding reefs. Visit June through October for dry weather and comfortable ruin exploration.

11. Day 11

    Mafia Island, Tanzania

    Tanzania

Mafia Island is home to Tanzania's first marine park, where pristine coral reefs harbour 400 fish species and whale sharks gather seasonally in numbers that make it one of the world's best swim-with-whale-shark destinations. Must-dos include snorkelling with whale sharks in Kilindoni Bay, diving the outer reef wall, and exploring the atmospheric Omani ruins on Chole Island. Visit October through March for whale shark season and warm, calm seas.

12. Day 12

    Zanzibar

    Tanzania

Zanzibar is an Indian Ocean archipelago off Tanzania where the UNESCO-listed Stone Town preserves a millennium of Swahili, Arab, and Indian trading heritage amid carved doors, spice markets, and the haunting former slave market. Must-dos include the Forodhani night food market, spice farm tours, and pristine Nungwi beach. June through October offers the driest, most comfortable conditions.

13. Day 13

    Mombasa

    Kenya

Mombasa is East Africa’s oldest and most culturally rich port city, where a UNESCO-listed Portuguese fortress overlooks a Swahili Old Town steeped in a thousand years of Indian Ocean trade. Must-dos include exploring Fort Jesus, tasting fragrant Swahili biryani and coconut curries, and combining a port call with a safari to the Maasai Mara or Amboseli. January through March and July through October offer the driest weather for both coast and safari.
