El Barranco (Prince Philip's Steps) on Genovesa Island offers one of the Galápagos' most immersive seabird experiences, with red-footed boobies nesting at eye level and short-eared owls hunting storm petrels across lava fields. Must-dos include ascending the volcanic cliff stairs and walking among thousands of nesting boobies and frigatebirds. June through November brings peak breeding activity, though different species nest year-round.

Must-do experiences include hiking the cliffs for breathtaking views and observing unique seabird colonies. The best season to visit is from June to November, when the weather is cooler and wildlife is particularly active.
Genovesa is one of the northernmost islands of the archipelago. Genovesa’s southern side of the shield volcano’s crater collapsed and a protected bay known as Darwin Bay was formed. The island is often referred to as the “Bird Island” as the numbers and species of land and seabirds on Genovesa are quite extraordinary. There are two visitor sites, and Prince Philip’s Steps give access to the flat plateau above the bay. Named after Prince Philip who visited the Galapagos on two occasions, the “steps” are mostly natural. View less The steep cliffs are home to Red-billed Tropicbirds, while Magnificent Frigatebirds, Nazca and Red-footed Boobies prefer the top. The plateau above Prince Philip’s Steps has a palo santo forest and an extensive lava field. This is an area where one of the Galapagos’ top predators, the Short-eared Owl, is hunting storm petrels. The Short-eared Owls are extremely well camouflaged and are not always easy to spot in between the rocks.

North Seymour Island, a gem within the Galápagos archipelago, is renowned for its remarkable biodiversity and stunning volcanic landscapes. Sullivan Bay on Santiago Island is a pristine volcanic landscape in the Galápagos archipelago, where nineteenth-century pahoehoe lava flows create an otherworldly terrain of rope basalt, hornitos, and pioneer cacti framed by brilliant Sally Lightfoot crabs. The essential experience is a guided geological walk across the lava fields, complemented by Zodiac wildlife encounters along the shoreline. The Galápagos enjoys relatively stable weather year-round, though the warm season from January to May brings calmer seas and better snorkelling visibility, while the cooler garúa season from June to December offers more dynamic wildlife activity and nutrient-rich waters.

Mangle Point is a pristine mangrove inlet on Fernandina Island, the youngest and most volcanically active island in the Galápagos archipelago, accessible only by expedition cruise with operators such as Silversea and Tauck. Visitors explore the shallow channels by panga to encounter Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants, and green sea turtles in one of the planet's most undisturbed marine ecosystems. The best season to visit is June through November, when the cooler Garúa season brings nutrient-rich upwellings that concentrate wildlife along the western islands.

Punta Moreno is a remote volcanic landing site on the western coast of Isabela Island in the Galápagos, where stark pahoehoe lava fields meet brackish lagoons teeming with flamingos, pintail ducks, and marine iguanas. The essential experience is walking across the otherworldly basalt terrain with an expert naturalist, observing pioneer species that have colonised the fissures of relatively recent lava flows. Accessible year-round, the warm-dry season from June to November offers the best conditions for wildlife activity and calmer seas for Zodiac landings.
Among the impressive new lava fields of Fernandina Island hides a cove surrounded by mangroves. A rewarding place for bird-watching as the bay is the point where the land meets the sea, joining the two environments, with sea birds, shorebirds and land birds all in the same place. The different species of mangroves: Red, White and Black, have formed a root system that serves as a nursery for many species of fish, including juveniles’ sharks and green sea turtles. View less Snorkeling is as rewarding with some unique sightings as Marine Iguanas feeding on algae, or flightless cormorants diving for their prey.

Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela Island is a stunning marine destination rich in history and natural beauty. Must-do experiences include snorkeling in the vibrant underwater ecosystems and savoring local dishes like ceviche de mero. The station also houses the Fausto Llerena Breeding Center for giant tortoises and land iguanas where guides interpret the centre’s captive breeding and reintroduction programs. In addition to these star species, throughout the station there are huge prickly pear cactus trees being fed upon by the pretty Galapagos Cactus Finch. To round out the stay in Puerto Ayora, enjoy free time in town where local artists have created charming art galleries and corner cafés.
