Daily Itinerary

1. Day 1

   Berlin

   Germany

Berlin is Germany's dynamic capital, a city of profound historical layers from Prussian grandeur through Cold War division to its current status as Europe's creative capital. Must-do experiences include Museum Island's five world-class collections and a day trip to Potsdam's Sanssouci Palace. May through September offers the best weather for exploring the city's parks, beer gardens, and vibrant outdoor culture.

2. Day 2

   Wusterwitz

   Germany

Wusterwitz is a Brandenburg canal town on the Elbe-Havel waterway, set in flat lake-studded countryside where eagle-inhabited wetlands meet Frederick the Great's drainage engineering. Must-dos include watching lock operations, visiting the medieval Brandenburg Cathedral, and observing autumn crane migration. June through August offers the warmest weather, while autumn brings spectacular crane gatherings of European significance.

3. Day 3

   Wittenberg

   Germany

Wittenberge is a quietly compelling Elbe River port in Brandenburg's Prignitz region, where a thirteen-century medieval heritage meets reimagined industrial architecture and pristine biosphere landscapes. Visitors should not miss the Steintorturm and Uhrenturm clock tower, and a riverside meal of pan-fried Zander with linseed oil is essential. The optimal season for a river cruise call is May through October, when long northern daylight illuminates the Elbe promenade and surrounding wildflower meadows at their most resplendent.

4. Day 4

   Meissen

   Germany

Meissen is a thousand-year-old porcelain town on the Elbe River in Saxony, Germany, where the Albrechtsburg castle, Gothic cathedral, and the world's oldest porcelain manufactory crown a hilltop above cobblestone lanes and rare Saxon vineyards. Visitors should not miss a guided tour of the Meissen porcelain workshop and a tasting of Goldriesling wine on the market square beneath the porcelain-bell carillon. The ideal season to visit is late spring through early autumn, when the vineyard terraces are lush and river cruising conditions on the Elbe are at their finest.

5. Day 5

   Dresden

   Germany

Dresden, an elegant port city in Saxony, is celebrated for its baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage. Must-do experiences include visiting the stunning Frauenkirche and sampling local delicacies like Dresdner Stollen. The best season to visit is during the spring or fall when the weather is mild and the city buzzes with vibrant festivals and events.

6. Day 6

   Bad Schandau

   Germany

Bad Schandau is the elegant spa town gateway to Saxon Switzerland National Park, where a 1904 cliff-face elevator and Jugendstil villas provide civilized access to Central Europe's most dramatic sandstone scenery. Visit April through October via Viking's Elbe itineraries for the Schrammsteine rock formations, Toskana Therme post-hike spa recovery, and the Romantic-era landscapes that inspired Caspar David Friedrich.
