Road Bay is the principal anchorage of Anguilla — a flat coral island in the northeastern Caribbean whose sixteen miles of length contain some of the most beautiful beaches in the Western Hemisphere and a dining scene that has made this tiny British Overseas Territory an improbable gastronomic destination.

Anguilla's beaches are its currency, and the exchange rate is extraordinarily favorable. Shoal Bay East, consistently ranked among the world's top ten, extends for two miles of white sand so fine it squeaks underfoot, bordered by water that transitions from pale aquamarine to deep sapphire with the precision of a color chart. Meads Bay, Rendezvous Bay, and the aptly named Little Bay — accessible only by boat or by climbing down a cliff face — each offer distinct personalities while maintaining the impeccable standard that has made Anguilla the Caribbean's beach benchmark.

The island's food scene defies its modest size. A population of fifteen thousand supports restaurants that would be noteworthy in Manhattan or London — from the beachside grills serving the Caribbean's finest crayfish to the refined dining rooms of luxury resorts where chefs trained in Michelin-starred kitchens apply their skills to Caribbean ingredients. The annual Moonsplash Music Festival, founded by reggae legend Bankie Banx at his Dune Preserve beach bar, demonstrates that Anguilla's cultural production is as disproportionate to its size as its cuisine.

Explora Journeys, Ponant, and Windstar Cruises anchor in Road Bay, with the island's flat terrain and compact size making exploration by taxi or rental car straightforward. The absence of cruise-ship crowds — Anguilla has no deep-water port for large vessels — ensures that the island's beaches and restaurants maintain the exclusivity that draws a discerning clientele willing to pay premium prices for genuine Caribbean tranquility.

December through April provides the driest and most comfortable conditions. Anguilla is the Caribbean's most convincing argument that luxury need not involve excess — that the finest things can be the simplest: a perfect beach, exceptional food, warm water, and the absence of everything that makes other Caribbean destinations feel overcrowded and overproduced.
