The town also serves as a cruise excursion destination for ships calling at Cape Town or Saldanha Bay. The best months to visit are November through March for swimming and watersports, with August through September offering the wildflower spectacle. The West Coast wind — reliable, consistent, and often strong — makes Langebaan one of the world's premier kiteboarding destinations, and the sight of dozens of kites filling the sky above the turquoise lagoon is one of the defining images of South Africa's Western Cape.
