Built in 1576 from honey-coloured Cotswold stone, this E-shaped manor has remained in the same family since 1891 and carries within its walls a tapestry of English history stretching back to the English Civil War, when Colonel Nathaniel Stephens — then owner — was famously persuaded by Oliver Cromwell himself to vote for the trial of King Charles I.
