MU
An adult-only boutique hotel in mauritius for lovers of food, travel, and all things local. The first SALT had to be in Mauritius. The 59-room boutique hotel is bang on the beach of Palmar, facing the prettiest lagoon. French artist Camille Walala teamed up with Mauritian architect Jean-François Adam to transform the riad-style hotel into Instagram eye-candy. The bold-looking space has many luxe amenities (yoga mats and Roberts radios, Dyson hair dryers, organic bathrobes…) but the attraction is more than skin deep. Sustainability is big at SALT, with a ban on single use plastics and zero food waste, as well as its locavore restaurant and three bars, including a rooftop bar. Travellers are encouraged to leave the hotel and explore the island, thanks to the SALT guidebook, but also connect with the local community whether it’s for dinner at someone’s home or learning to weave traditional baskets. After going off the beaten path, travellers can unwind by the pool, at the beach, and at the spa.
