The Reception staff will post your postcards and letters from all ports where this facility is available. Your onboard account will be debited with the appropriate charges.
**Announcements**
To create the full expedition experience, commentaries are provided for interesting passages during the cruise and special animal sightings are reported. The ship’s position is reported in the morning on days at sea. We will also announce via the loudspeakers when the local authorities have cleared the ship and we can go ashore. The volume can be controlled individually in each cabin/suite.
**Means of payment**
The on-board currency is the euro. An account will be set up for you so that you can make cashless payments during the cruise. You can find out your current account balance at any time using the infotainment system in your cabin/suite. You can then settle the entire account at Reception at the end of your cruise. We accept German EC/Maestro cards and the following credit cards: Mastercard, American Express and Visa. You can also pay in cash. Please note that, in general, foreign currencies cannot be changed on board.

Enrichment
Your shore excursions and Zodiac rides will be accompanied by countless natural wonders that will leave you speechless, but to see the bigger picture, you need to understand the background. Our new ships take your expedition to the next level with fascinating presentations in the HanseAtrium, personal studies in the Ocean Academy and the perfect equipment for the research trip of your life.
Hanse Atrium
Lectures
Draw on our experts’ wealth of knowledge during their daily presentations in the HanseAtrium, the new multifunctional lounge with state-of-the-art technology. Visit the lounge to prepare for upcoming excursions and shed more light on impressions gained (so-called precaps and recaps). Discuss your latest discoveries, enjoy fascinating, relaxed film evenings or listen to our experts’ enthralling travel reports. In the evening, the HanseAtrium is transformed into an atmospheric bar where you can see out the day and reflect on your experiences.
Ocean Academy
EducationStudy
A large Study wall and an interactive Study poster display the latest fascinating articles and information on various disciplines and cruise experiences are enhanced with scientific content. A separate area with binocular microscopes allows you to discover natural wonders, together with your experts, that cannot be seen with the naked eye. And whenever inquisitiveness takes hold, sit back in a comfortable Study Seat with a swivel touchscreen and immerse yourself in the world of science – away from the presentations and scheduled events.
Zodiacs
ExcursionsZodiacs
A spirit of adventure doesn’t need harbours. The 17 Zodiacs (expedition rubber boats) are often the only way to get ashore in remote regions. After boarding via the side gate of the ships, specially trained drivers will navigate you to remote shores - in small groups and without long waiting times. This is the only way to reach regions that have retained their original character. The Zodiacs glide between icebergs, land on remote tropical beaches or navigate you through narrow waterways. Once ashore, your adventure continues: hikes with expedition guides will invigorate your body and mind. Whether Nordic Walking, easy trekking tours or snowshoeing – many active experiences await you.
Our Zodiacs will take you to hidden places and areas that are difficult to access, take you on further where other ships have to turn back and enable you to go ashore in places that may otherwise seem impossible. Your experiences in these places will become unforgettable memories. Let the Zodiacs take you straight into your next adventure, such as into the network of tributaries on the Amazon, to idyllic beaches in the South Seas or in search of impressive glacial landscapes. Experienced experts will always be on hand to show you what to look out for. These experiences are part of all of our expedition cruises and are also included in the cruise price on selected EUROPA and EUROPA 2 cruises. See things up-close in far-flung places – and experience new worlds.
Camping in the Antarctic
ExcursionsCamping
Surely the purest way to experience the sixth continent! Take the unique opportunity to pitch your tent in the endless ice. An intensive experience in the tradition of great pioneers. This activity is offered on selected expeditions with the HANSEATIC nature, the HANSEATIC inspiration and the HANSEATIC spirit.
Experts
Lectures
Whales ahead? Chile's glaciers in sight? The passage through the Panama Canal is imminent? You will experience expedition highlights particularly intensively in the open air - and your experts will always be with you on the many open deck areas. They explain the background and provide valuable detailed knowledge that you won't find in any travel guide. Is there a topic you can't get enough of? Your expedition team of up to 16 people will be happy to answer your questions - the more thirsty for knowledge, the better. After all, what would an expedition be without curiosity?
Kayaks
ExcursionsKayaks
Conquer the polar waters by kayak in small groups of no more than twelve participants. We offer tours with instruction from an experienced kayak guide on selected cruises on our new expedition ships. These excursions are ideal for beginners with previous experience.
Hikes
ExcursionsHikes
Your experts will accompany the hikes and landings and draw your attention to details that often go unnoticed by an untrained eye. Snowshoe hiking in Antarctica is a very special experience. Not only will you enjoy spectacular views, you will gain deep insights into the wonders of our planet.
Organised Shore Activities
Excursions
Our classic excursions will give you your first impressions of the region. For those who prefer to be active and get to know a country and its people from a new perspective, we also provide adventure trips and active tours, such as hiking, Segway, boat and kayak tours and snorkelling.
Expertise
Expeditions
Why explore the world with us? Because we truly know how to do expeditions. Our for decades of experience in particular allow us to plan, prepare and perform these highly complex journeys. What is planned for the long term nevertheless enables flexible responses to local conditions. The captain and crew check the route every day, not only in polar regions, and react to the weather and ice as best they can. And yet: no ship technology shows where polar bears wander or schools of whales curiously appear - this is where our instinct for the right moment and true passion for discovery come into play.
Health & Fitness
A steam sauna will pamper you with gentle heat before the fresh ocean breeze revitalises your body on the adjacent external deck. Thanks to its flexible canopy, the large pool area can be enjoyed whatever the weather – let your mind drift on the spacious Sun Deck or in the warm water of the pool!

In the event of any health problems, our ships have a ship’s hospital equipped with modern medical facilities which is under the direction of an experienced ship’s doctor. Please refer to the consultation times displayed on board.
**Can I obtain medication in the on-board hospital?**
There is a basic inventory of medications on board. We ask our guests to bring adequate quantities of any medications they require with them.

**On board**
On an expedition cruise, everything revolves around experiencing the natural and there is a sporty and elegant atmosphere of exploration. This is the motto in all our restaurants for evening dining. On special occasions (such as Christmas) and for welcome and farewell evenings, we recommend wearing a jacket. Please consider the following in our restaurants, bars and lounges:
- Swim wear and bathrobes (including bathing shoes) are not allowed in the restaurants, bars and lounges- Sportswear and outdooe clothes are not allowed during dinner time- Shorts and open shoes (for men) are not allowed during dinner time on deck 4
**Ashore**
When you go ashore, you should wear comfortable and practical clothes to suit the particular cruising area. Sturdy, flat shoes are essential – both for on board the ship and when you are ashore. In order to protect yourself from spray when on board the Zodiac, please take waterproof trousers or overtrousers without Velcro if possible with you (especially for expeditions in the polar regions, we recommend avoiding clothing with Velcro as to ensure that flora and fauna are not carried into regions where they are not indigenous). A protective waterproof bag is useful for your smartphone/camera equipment. For routes in warm waters, please remember to bring enclosed, sturdy beach shoes or waterproof trekking sandals that allow you to walk well and safely. These are also essential for the Zodiacs.
**Do you provide rubber boots?**
On our expedition ships, rubber boots in sizes 33 to 52 are provided on a loan basis for wet landings in the Antarctic and Arctic. When cruising in the Arctic and Antarctic, please note that rubber boots must be washed in a rubber boots washer when leaving or boarding the ships.
**Are parkas provided?**
Depending on the cruising area, parkas are also provided on board the expedition ships for loan throughout the entire cruise. The parkas are available in American sizes S–XXXL and are not available for purchase.
